The mute dwarf was originally supposed to just be called “seventh”. Walt Disney suggested “Dopey”, but it was immediately rejected as “too modern” and some thought it had connotations of drug use. Disney then found that the term “dopey” had, in fact, been used in Shakespeare… Guess what name made the final cut? I love Walter Elias Disney....
